Ram Janmabhoomi: The Birthplace of Lord Rama
The Ram Janmabhoomi temple is located in the Ayodhya district, in the town of Faizabad. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, who is considered one of the most important deities in Hinduism. The temple site is also believed to be the location of the ancient city of Ayodhya, which was the capital of the Hindu kingdom of Kosala.
The dispute over the Ram Janmabhoomi site began in the 19th century, when some Hindus claimed that a mosque had been built on top of the ruins of a temple dedicated to Lord Rama. The mosque, known as the Babri Masjid, was built in the 16th century by Mughal Emperor Babur.
In 1992, a large group of Hindu activists gathered at the Babri Masjid and demolished it, claiming that it was built on top of a temple. The incident sparked communal riots across India, leading to the deaths of thousands of people.
The issue of the Ram Janmabhoomi site has been in the courts for many years, with several petitions filed by both Hindus and Muslims. In 2010, the Allahabad High Court gave its verdict, dividing the site into three parts, with one part going to the Hindus, one part going to the Muslims, and the third part going to a Hindu sect.
In 2019, the Supreme Court of India gave its verdict on the matter, allowing for the construction of a Ram temple at the site. The court also ordered the government to provide an alternate site to the Muslims for the construction of a mosque.
The construction of the Ram temple began in August 2020, with the laying of the foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple is expected to be completed in the next few years, and will be one of the largest Hindu temples in the world.
Ayodhya is also known for its other temples and historical monuments, including the Hanuman Garhi temple, the Kanak Bhawan temple, and the Dashrath Mahal. The city is also home to several ashrams and spiritual centers, and is a popular destination for pilgrims from across India and the world.
